Hi all,
I have a pair of Angelfish but I can't tell what sex they are...

One is Albino and the other one has black/white strips...

They both pretty big... Around 7 cm diameter not include fin...

Albino love poking the others... The black/white strip Angelfish never poke her back...

I don't know whether they are couple or not... can someone tell me how to find out?

John,
The missus has 2 Angels which we thought we could sex as it seemed like a few times they were going to breed however each time we did we came up with a different sex for each. The only way we were able to positively i.d. which 1 was male and which 1 was female was when we got to watch them spawn.

From what I have read there is no discernable differences between males and females outside of when they are breeding. When they are breeding "positive identification can be made by the shape of the genital papillae; on the male it is pointed, on the female it is rounded".  Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Bryce.

I have bred angels for several years until recently and you have two ways that I used to sex them. Firstly if they were not too interbred then the males will have a sort of hump on his head above his nose. The other way is to look at there papila tube and see if you can see the shape as the girls are more rounded and larger and the boys are thin. If you have any really problems still sexing them then let us know where you are as I either myself or a friend who now breeds them may be able to help you further.
