I have a barra and a saratoga which are in a 6 foot tank but it is only 47cm wide. So my question is - are they only going to grow to a maximum size of 47cm???

As long as you keep up the water quality with good filtration and regular water changes, and feed them well, the width of the tank shouldn't impact on their growth rates. Howver, the real question is how comfortable will they be in that tank when they get to a size where they find it difficult to turn around? You may find they start stressing when they get bigger, and stressed fish are far more prone to illness.

They may reach those sizes if the conditions and feeding is right.

However big fish in crammed spaces can be a major problem inparticular saratoga. They have a tendancy to be very jumpy.

Trust me when I say occasionally mine liked to smash through the lids when he felt a little crammed.

mani,
i know its prob to late now, you already have them, but dont go taking on big fish unless you have the tank space for them. big fish need a big water to be happy, it would be like you living in a mini minor.
