$8K gold 10-15cm, have never seen anything decent come into Aus but I think you will have to look closer to $10K for a high quality one.  I have seen young greens trying to be passed off as golds so be careful, make sure you know what you are looking for.

$5K 10cm red; I would not buy at this size because it is difficult to see colour and a lot of RTG's get passed around as reds.  Some will try and pass these around with certificates but true micro chipped fish are not sold less than 15cm.  Many reds are bred with greens and gives more red in a juvinile fish which helps fetch a higher prices as juviniles.

$3K for RTG's (Red Tail Gold), probably the most sensible choice relative to price and colour, less likely to get ripped off with these.

$1K for greens, can't go wrong with ID on these.

15-20cm is the best size to ID colours in the fish.  Sydney is the best place to find asian arowana.  Don't bother calling shops, they won't take you seriously, you need to ask in person.  If your friend has not purchase one of these fish before I would suggest  doing some research first.  There are quite a few good books available OS on ebay.  The Asian Arowana by William Goh & Julia Chua is an excellent book (in English) which specificaly deals with picking and id of young asian arowana.  Annerley aquarium or Wetpetz should be able to get a copy of this book in for you.

Cool thanks for your advice. I do not know anything about them. He knew I bred fish and asked if I may know of anyone so if you ahve those details I can pass them on and let him sort it out. I'll stick to my africans, catfish and axolotls.

Thanks again for your assistance.
