I can probably give a lift from Rockhampton if anyone needs it. Or if they can get to the round about from gladdy. If I am working that day (no idea yet) I will be good for a lift from gladdy too.

Only 2 weeks to go now. Hope you all have it marked on your calenders :D  Oh, and if any of you have any Tanganyikan cichlids that you may want to part withand could bring with, there could, maybe, possibly be some interest at this end

Thanks.
Dave.

Is there an itinerary for it all yet? What time where sort of business? Accommodation if needed?

Also: Andrew, can we get through to moura past the Cook washery? We were looking on a map and it looks like a goat / logging track there. But it was an old map. Would save a bloody lot of time!

James

trofius

James the road that goes down poast the cook washery is crap... then after the entrance to the BMA mine it gets very good for about 10km then it is dirt i am pretty sure Most of the way to Rolestone...unless it has been fixed up in the last 6months.

fishtraderlau

well team...this weekend!!!!

to get to moura, if on the way out go from rocky down through mt morgan and wowan to moura.

fastest way from blackwater to moura, up through baralaba and woorabinda. dirt roads for say 60km of the 210km but good quality dirt generally- i get along 100km/hr on them, maybe 80k/hr if you don't have much experience on dirt or know the road.

road down past cook is pretty good too, a bit longer dirt though and slightly longer than via woorabinda, fastest way if leaving from bma mine itself but i don't think you'll be doing that :)

if heading to moura on the way home from emerald..best bet south from emerald to rolleston and across that way.

As far as accom. no chance in any hotels and mining boom is driving things and prices nuts.

blackwater to emerald is ~50 mins drive so we'll be back here in blackwater saturday night, anyone is welcome to stay here too if they want so head back here after finishing up at dave&kylie's in the evening.

as for timing...i reckon get to emerald maybe 2pm? is that your idea Dave? so people coming through blackwater call in here maybe 10.30am so depart for dave's by 1pm.

any suggestions let me know, what time do you want us there Dave!!!

Cheers all, look forward to catching up with you all,

Andrew.

woman is more like a beer...They look good...They smell good...And you'd step over your own mother just to get one!!

davez104

Yeah, anytime early afternoon is fine. Fully catered as far as food goes, plenty of XXXX in the fridge in case ya get thirsty so should be all good. To find our place from blackwater just come over the bridge in to Emerald, chuck a right at the Shell servo in to Opal street, follow that all the way up till you find Bonython Dr on your left. Bonython Drive does a big loop so take the second one not the first. We are the second house on the right, number 54.

Andrew, I'll get you to bring some fish food over, i'll shoot you an email or something on Friday.

Thanks.
Dave.

Righto...the day has just about begun. I've been in the fish shed all morning emptying and tidying buckets (fear not lloyd, all your buckets and filters are neatly stacked- yellow buckets in yellow buckets of course, just so you can never get them apart :) )

The rocky crew expected here any minute now so the missus has had me hanging paintings and tidying rooms, while i am on here she is now sweeping off the patio and the like.

Should be a great day, i'll be sure to let you know how it goes and throw up a few piccies at the end of it all.

Cheers team,

Andrew.

Well, the day has been and gone. The food was good, the beer was cold and the talk was fish, I think we had everything covered. It was good to meet James and Anthea, although I think we may have met once before. Everyone was here by about 2pm, spent some time looking at my tanks and growing collection of Tanganyikan cichlids. Also showed my home built sump + overflow setup, agricultural but effective  . We then went around to Steve's house for a perve at his setup. Malawi mbuna this time, and a nice tidy setup to boot. Back to my place for a feed, a couple more drinks and a yarn or two. It was around 7pm when everyone left for home. Some had come a fair distance for the day, so just want to say thanks to everyone for putting in the miles to be here, James and Anthea (hope my spelling is close :D ) 600km round trip from Rocky, Andrew and Min 150km from Blackwater and Steve- two blocks  . I think Andrew may have a piccie or two to throw up later on.

Thanks again everyone and I eagerly await the next one. 8)

g,day dave,

wish i had been able to make it, sounds like a good one.  i didn't even get to look at any fish shops while i was in bris-vegas, doctor's, hospitals and relies kept us busy for the 2 days.

and andrew forgot to grab your moliro's too.  hope to make it out that way soon.

cheers lloyd

Dave: Yep the spelling is right. I am becoming more sure we know you from the "Blackwater Super Auction".

Was a pretty boring day all up. Millions of whiting, and I think some bream and baby trevally. Only natives I saw were a couple of spangled perch (which fell into the back of my car!), a spiny eel (which didn't), and a mythical turtle ;)

Even though we took no money out there specifically because we weren't going to spend any, managed to pick up fish and a 7 footer. Hmmm...

Davo's Authentic Indian Curry house was a highlight of the weekend! Definitely worth the trip!

Good to meet you all, looking forward to the next one.

James

Whiting! There where Whiting?? Damn, must have missed that  Not many natives here I'm afraid, but looking forward to seeing yours some day. I used to keep a few Barramundi, a Yellowbelly and a couple of Aussie bass a while ago. They where awesome except that it was almost a full time job feeding them, damn those things can eat 8O . Makes you wonder how they could possibly be hard to catch. Glad you both had a good day and a good trip home and yes, look forward to the next one.

Dave.
