>at least there is the option of an RACQ inspection........  Cheers<

Didn''t you inspect the items before you bid on them ????<
><
>From what I know of the stewards and auctioneers there is no way sick or ailing fish would be put up for sale.. They would be rejected before they got to the auction table.<
><
>Even poorly packed fish are rebagged, at a cost to the seller, to ensure the well being of the animals.<
><
>From the desciption of the ailment I have my suspicions.<
><
>Did you test the water the fish were in ????pH, hardness, etc....How did it compare with your tanks???    How long did you take aclimate the new fish to your conditions????<
><
>The symptoms you vagely describe are not a contageous disease.<
><
>Alan. When life gives you lemons ask for a bottle of tequila & salt.<
>The only danger I find in life is to take too many precautions. Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet.<

White fungus would of been noticeable on the fish at the time of the auction, I also feel that your assessment leaves a bit to be desired, no disrespect, just my thoughts.<

>P.S. On a further note, if you do suspect such then freeze the affected fish, also keep a sample of their bag water plus a sample of your own and have all lab tested, as I am now due to poisoning from some squid I purchased @ Woolies last week, .. rang the manager yada yada yada and they seem quite amicable towards compensating me for the 50 plus fish I lost.<

>I''d say the fish were stressed, the problem is you can''t tell who the fish come from, how long they were in the bags for, was oxygen in the bag, how good is the fish keeper that had them before you...<
><
>Fungal infections are usually caused by dirty water, stress, lack of oxygen, lack of nutrition, fish are already carrying another disease(weakend immune system)......<
><
>Quote:White fungus would of been noticeable on the fish at the time of the auction, I also feel that your assessment leaves a bit to be desired, no disrespect, just my thoughts<
>There is a good chance that these fish were aready carrying the fungal spores(not seeable at time of purchase). Remeber that fungal diseases have various life stages. If fish were weak, stressed...explains the problem.  <

>Having met & talked to Tim before I''d say his tanks are clean & fish get quality foods.  <

We have been to Tims and seen his fish and they are A1 but as Frenchy said  in post above you have no way of knowing how long the fish were bagged or how well. Auctioneers will weed out anything that they see as suspect but they do miss things so we take along fresh aged water, oxygen bags ect.   <
>If the fish look stressed we will water change them and re gas.<
>Also helps to have heat pads in winter to stop them chilling too much and I like to throw a couple of bits of ice on top of the bags in the coolite boxes in summer.<
>I know it sounds a bit of a pain but if the fish do look a bit stressed and you can water change them ect generally the problem can be nipped in the bud before it developes into something nasty        Linda.

Just another quick comment that we have found in packing ourselves that Rainbows can be a bit of a problem.  Don''t know why?!?.  We usually pack them in a bigger bag than we would usually use for that size fish and in summer add a teaspoon or so of Zeolite or Ammogon.  <
>Might be of help to anyone wanting to sell Rainbows at auction.   Linda

Thanks for the feedback ppl also to Freanchy and Alan cheers. Also to the other''s maybe hinting that i might not no what im doing and maybe my Water Quality might not be up to scratch. I have been keeping fish for years and just about every kind i can think of and i have kept (many) Rainbows and many Boesmani  and never had  this problem now first up let me say i intended nothing towards the Auctioners i no they are Awsome and will never let sus looking fish threw. As i seen Bob nock a few back while he was up all i ment buy this was to be carful maybe when buying fish. <
><
>Second I put the fish in the same way i do it with everyfish i have ever owned and never had a probelm with any of them and i have had some touchy fish.<
><
>And i am running tanks that are perfect that have been happy with Discus Rams few smaller earth eaters in it without any problems. <
><
>Also i did inspect fish and they (seemed) ok but aparently they were not if i had have lost one or two i would not have been stressed. The thing is after haveing them like about 3 to 4 days they all got sick and died within about 1 to 2 days of eatch other. None of  the other fish seem to be fuffering but i have finished treating the tank and all seem''s well just a bit of a pity as i love My Boesmani rainbows and they are kinda $$ when you buy 10 or more at a time wich is what i did.<
><
>Thanks again for the feedback but this was only a post to let you Newbys no that with Fish auctions you must be carfull and cheak what you buy also thanks to the other for posting there coments about what i might have done rong as now a lot of ppl no what not to do and how to do things the right way.<
><
>Cheer''s ppl.<
><
>P.S and one with some cheep rainbows they might want to sell mt...<
><
>Tim. Im in the northern suberbs you can email me  jet_li_69@hotmail.com

Tim - sorry if I offended you - didn''t mean to or to have a go at you.  As I said we''ve seen your fish and they are well kept and managed.  I mainly put the coments up to let people know that there is no way of knowing how or when the fish were bagged so we take along the stuff we might need to help the odd bag of fish that might be in trouble. <
><
>The second comment was hopefully for anyone new.<
><
>We have found that Rainbows dont travel as well through Auctions as most of the other fish.  As I said - we havn''t figured out why but we accept it and go to that bit more trouble with them so hopefully they are happy in the bag.<
><
>I think we''ve all been caught out with a bag here and there and youre right..its a pain .. but generally the fish are pretty good         Linda

LOl Bob mate i was never upset with you i said thanks for the comments about how i have clean tanks..lol  Your a good bloke mate look foward to seeing you in a few months.<

>Cheer''s.<
