thanks luke,
i do that now myself,

are you getting a fungus growth on the eggs???

if you are this is the unfertile eggs that have gone off and the fungus is growing on to the ripe eggs.

when ever you see any with fungus get them out asap.

a little meth blue will help keep the fungus growth down to a minimum.

maybe up the amount of air under the strainer to keep them boiling more.

I am using a tumbler from the states that is made by Jehmco
http://www.jehmco.com/PRODUCTS_/HARDWARE_/Egg_Tumbler/body_egg_tumbler.html
I am having pretty good sucess with it although I dont know yet whether it is worth the $40 each to get them here.
Other then that have a look at the DIY egg tumble on the Sydney Cichlid page. They can be made from uplift tubes from undergravel filters.

hi wayne,
not getting fungus, using meth blue.
they seem to go white just as they are hatching,
was thinking i might have to much air flow and its killing them.

thanks dave.

and thanks josh for the link.

Hi Dave - cuckoos doing well - just put them in with some breeding cichlids - so hopefully cuckoo babies soon.
On the subject of egg tumblers, my hubby made one out of a small plastic coke bottle - cut the bottom out of it - put a "window" with mesh in it - then put a 13mm irrigation elbow in the bottom with mesh over it - and attached it to a small internal filter which was laid on its back.
Hard to describe here - if you pm me your email addy, I will take a photo and email it to you .... but it works well !!!!
You just have to make sure you stop tumbling it as soon as you see eyes or tails - the first time we tried it - we "overtumbled" and killed the fry - but now works quite successfully.
Cheers
Carole
