I have a colony of tangerine zebras and cobalt blues in the same tank - will these guys cross breed or will they keep to themselves?

The females are conditioned to respond to a different coloured breeding display from the respective males, one blue and one tangerine. Under normal circumstances where there is an appropriate male displaying, the females would not respond to the other male. Interbreeding would only normally happen where either there is no appropriate male present or the male present is dominated and intimidated into not displaying to his female/s by the other male.

I hope that makes sense. What I am trying to say is watch them and as long as both sets of males are holding their own in the tank and are displaying to their females, you shouldn't have a problem. Although given that all zebras are such aggressive & prolific breeders, if you have the tank space available, you may still be better off separating them to avoid the possibility.

Hi AF.

Yeah champ, Doug is on the money but in a 4ft tank, to be honest separating is the way to go. Sounds like you are all over it.

Good points Doug,  but the Tangerine Zebra male should be blue I believe. I know we dont see the blue males around much anymore. I do think there is a very high chance of them cross breeding in this case.
