Hey all

recently i sold 50 bristlenoses to a shop, on a friday , by monday all dead including all the albino bristlenose and transcriptus that were in the tank aswell. All fish were killed by whitespot...lucky the white calvus were not effected.

SOme of my tanks at home did have white spot at the time, but i was carefull to ensure clean nets (soak in boiling water then very strongmulticure permamnantly) i caught out the bristlnoses into another small tank so i could grade them, sorted out the bigger ones for the shop , bagged them up and off they went, got my cash, they were happy with them all clean no spots. all the extra bristlenoses were added back to their big tank, no sign of the white spot on any bristlenose in that tank...i check twice a day now.

I feel really bad that this happened, should i replace the fish for free, give back the cash, or just leave it as doo doo happens, and continues as normal. I really like this shop and would love to remain a loyal customer/supplier.????????

You are all aware that whitespot takes 6 rounds of 3 day tretaments (18days) to completely wipe out,...3 days is a joke, and will not kill every protozoan.

i will give the shop another 20 next week and see how we go

i feel it was both our faults, tank at shop may have had a rather differnt pH causeing the stress to the fishes, and also over 100 fish in a smallish tank is a bit much.

Mick if you sell to this pet store on a regular basis, I myself would look after them and make sure they are happy with the out come ask there opinion. is 50 b/n worth loosing a future customer
also if possible if there is a chance of white spot try putting the fish into a separate tank [ with no substrate] and winding up the temp a week or so before sale

Hi Mick

I believe the relationship is more important than one sale. Talk to them and work out a compromise solution.

Cheers, Doug

I know some people will say its worse for the fish when they arive in crappy conditions at the LFS (not saying they are crap, but probably not as good as yours), but I would invest alittle in a uv sterilizer, even just a portable one to chuck in a tank the fortnight before to make sure it dont happen.

dont know how a shop could have lost all those fish to white spot.
its a very simple to treat parasite that if treated soon should have hardly any deaths.
if your fish arrived on friday there is little to know chance that you carried the whitespot there that killed all the fish by monday.

but i do see where you are coming from with wanting to keep a healthy relationship with the lfs. prob give em 20 like you said, will keep them happy

cheers

what ever you do dont get grum started on fish dying.........lol.

Thats why i dont sell fish, i still pray for my lost tropheus, but who has ever kept them and not lost a few?

A happy customer is a returning customer some times you have to bite the bullet but if it happens again then ask the shop what they are doing. I once sold a wholesaler 100 bn's and all died by the next day so I gave them another 100 for free and they continued to buy off of me. I know of other breeders who refused to budge and lost a customer. But in saying that if it is a continueous problem then aks the shop what is going on or find another shop to deal with. A one off time is understandable but a constant problem is uncoceiveable.
don't just want to breed good fish I want to breed WOW fish.

FISHKEEPING IS MORE THAN A HOBBY IT IS A DISEASE MAN!!

LFS are supposed to be the professionals...yet I know a lot of hobbyist who have their tanks on a system....but it seems very few shops do!

I suggest they have their tanks on a system and treat the water with ozone to kill all the bugs after it exits the filter.....in a commercial setup it would have to reduce losses and pay for itself in the short term!

Why? When under gravel filters and regular maintenance do the job just as well for less cost? The cost of that will have to be passed on to customers, increasing the already (sometimes) riduculous prices of fish.

Mick: The fact that it was only the stock tank that bombed means it isn't your fish. Realistically it is the LFS problem, and he doesn't have anywhere to go.

Having said that, I would really appreciate the gesture and try to make it up to you if I was in the same situation.
