Ok so i bought a rack off this guy and set it all up and have had nothing but problems ever since.. The buyers reaction was basically i don't care get stuffed...

here's the story... if anyone wants any pictures don't hesitate to contact me as i'll be getting a digital camera in the next few days....

I also think other people should post up if they have had bad experiances as well...

The pump wouldn't work finally got it going it pumps out around 500L/H all the pluming leaked and went all over my floor...

When the water went all over the floor the wood started to soak up the water and in about 10 minutes you could see it about 10cm up the legs of the stand....

I also noticed when i moved the stand around to set it up and to fit it in my room that on the back of the stand it was all stamped NON STRUCTUAL WOOD......

Ok so that was two days ago.... I woke up today after draining all the tanks out yesterday and hoping to dry out the wood to lacquer up the stand but it's now bowed... and the wood is still soaked...

He used nails to nail the stand together so i drilled in some screws to strengthen the stand and the wood is like MUSH you can dig it out with a key....

I attempted to resolve some issues with Thomas (CORYFAN) and he said i make all my stands out of that wood... I've spoken with other members who have had problems aswell and stated that the wood differs...

I said fair enough it's my mistake to buy it but you shouldn't advertise something that isn't up to standards and you shouldn't attempt to hide things like NON STRUCTUAL WOOD STAMPS on the back of the stand....

Also the the pump was sold to me as a 2500L/H pump which took around 15minutes to drain a 125L tank working out to be be around 500L/H

I expect people to have some morals and you should be able to have some TRUST when buying from other members of a FORUM....

I hope that no one has to go through the same dramas that i have and this will prevent that...

I also contacted Thomas and told him what i thought and his comment was POST ON THE FORUM SEE IF I CARE...............

yeah mate don't want people to get done...... :?

ashhhh

buddy - unfortunately thats the risk you take with buying second hand gear.
Me personally if I were buying a setup, I would NOT buy it if it were not full of water, setup and running.
Thats how I sold all my gear, setup and running even tho there were no fish in it for months, just so people know what they're getting worked.
Its a bit like buying a second hand car, you dont pay for it [i:9e37c01c5e]before[/i:9e37c01c5e] you take it for a test drive and [i:9e37c01c5e]then[/i:9e37c01c5e] see how it runs.
But believe me I'm not defending this fella in any way, as I have heard on the 'big ol grape vine' about other 'unhappy customers' and sour deals that have been done, but if this is the way he decides to go about his business well its just gonna turn around and bite him in the ass, coz in the end, what goes around comes around.
Cheers.....

hey, what brand pumps were they?

Cory Fan

 well! i guess it is my turn to say something for myself......... well..on 15/06 (Thur) p.m. he came around with his friend and a truck and pick up the set up from me. I bring him into my garage and let him have a look at the setup before agree to buy. [b:9832da3a19]IT WAS[/b:9832da3a19] full of water, setup and running and full of goldfish[/b].

He had a look and said "yes, I will take it", we empty the tanks and he brought it away and we also ask him "do u have problem in linking them up", he said "yeh! i should be able to work it out" and we also help him to load to the truck.
After a week, he send me a pm and ask me if I am interested in buying it back as he would like to buy a steel stand or if I am not interested, he would post it. Finally, he had it posted. Suprisingly i found that he is selling even more than what he paid for.

[quote:9832da3a19]The pump wouldn't work finally got it going it pumps out around 500L/H all the pluming leaked and went all over my floor... [/quote:9832da3a19]
on the 27/06, he send me an email again and said the pump isn't working and insist i need to do something, well....i am kind enough to get him to drop by. I plugged the pump in the powerpoint and it worked :?  :? furthermore, it was working before we turn it off and empty the tanks. Will anyone reckon a 500L/hr pump can pump up to a height of ~2m?
Yesterday, he contacted me again in the msn and said that the stand is rubbish as it is made of nonstructural pine. well....check with timber yard expert, what is a nonstructural pine? things with "non" doesn't mean it is not good. Btw, I built all my stand with same kind of wood. In my garage, i have a 3 tier stand holding 3 4ftx15x15 tank now, but i don't see any bow.

[quote:9832da3a19]I also noticed when i moved the stand around to set it up and to fit it in my room that on the back of the stand it was all stamped NON STRUCTUAL WOOD...... [/quote:9832da3a19]
I don't hide the "nonstructural" wood stamp, it is a common sense that people don't built a stand with the stamp facing out. If I want or need to hide, i could easily sand it off.
If there is a problem with the plumbing, u should be able to see the floor is full with water when i had it set up.

[quote:9832da3a19]I expect people to have some morals and you should be able to have some TRUST when buying from other members of a FORUM.... [/quote:9832da3a19]
Your definition of "moral" is when u changed your mind and decided to get rid of it, but when u can't, u demand me to reimburse the pump and stand, i think u are trying to get something for nothing.

I guess the most important point is, i had showed him that the set up was all running well before I empty the tanks. I can't control what he had done or .... to the set up or pump or stand.

I can't make everyone happy in this world, all I can do is to do it fair, did he??
fter multiple tiers wooden stand??
Drop me a pm.

here fishie fishie

Can I play Judge Judy :?:

Can Wayne correct me if I am wrong but didn't Glenn{Old Big Cheese who is no where to be seen :D} delete all posts that had abusive rubbish like this in it :?:
Because what usually happens is that there are 3 sides to every story.

Shouldn't  "sd" have sent a pm to a moderator, with a complaint. For them to contact the other party involved eg;Cory Fan. To get both sides of the story.

Especially in this case, because if Cory Fan is right, then this post should be deleted, for it is useless rubbish.{Like the majority of my posts I guess :roll: Boy that pot is black}

Frenchy :D

It should be removed.

If you ask me (2) things happened here.

sd = idiot -  he bought something that had problems. He may have or not be informed but it's his choice to do some research/ask questions. This is just like used cars, people buy a lemon and then want it replaced YET they didn't do a RACQ test.
sd = idiot  - he bought something that was fine and he broke it and doesn't know how to fix it. Once again a used car analogy - he bought it, forgot to insure it, crashed it and then want's his money back.

I suggest you (sd) contact the police or a laywer if you wish to continue with these claims as to me (and i'm a assuming others) this just looks like public slander which is not warranted.

FURTHERMORE - sd, I think we get your point. No need to post across multiple sections. Also, mate you forgot to post (well you might aswell go for every fish forum in Aust.) a warning on ACE (Thomas is active there and the MODS just love it when stuff like this is posted).

Night.

I was maybe a bit harsh last post.

I will try and be helpful now:

PUMP: What brand is the pump? Have you done a test when it isn't on the system ie. use some buckets at the ground level. What is the output when a pipe is attached and it has to pump to 2m height etc.

LEAKING: where was it leaking? The bulkhead fittings, the piping, somewhere else. How is the plumbing attached (Proper Plumbing glue or silicone?) are there clamps to hold in place around joints?

STAND BOWING: where is it bowed how badly is it bowed? Could I be fixed by removing the offending piece(s) and adding a new piece - the timber used in only ~1.60 for a 2.4m length. As I will mention below, I have had a stand sitting in damp conditions/10cm of water for a few days and the only problem I have had is mould.

THE NON-STRUCTURAL ISSUE: I have used this on all my stands. I typically pick nice straight bits with minimal nots. It usually takes me 1hr to search. I was going to NOT use this timber for a system similar isze to yours, however discussion regarding Non-structural timber notes that it is not suitable/does not meet stringent building standards (Houses) may have changed my mind. I have a had a 4X2X2 on a stand out of this for over 2yrs and had no problems.

WATER ON FLOOR: Happens all the time. I had a conncetion off a 4000L/hr pump break. I was on carpet and it took alot of effort to clean up. It stank for a few weeks and worst of all it was in my bedroom. It's a fact of life - water == disaster. I suggest getting the stand out in the sun ASAP.

SEALING: I have used a waterproof paint primer. I forget the brand but it does the job. I think a laquer should do a good job, however last time when I asked at Bunnings the guy suggested MARINE GRADE stuff. It was not cheap but depends on if you want to be safe/want a natural stand vs a white one etc.

NAILS: This seems pretty stupid IMO. I am glad to hear to have added screws.

As for the draining issue, it could be poor design of the system - back pressure issues too smaller holes/ inappropriate pipe diameter used. I cannot relly know without having more detailed specs.

As you can see, I have gone to the effort (time !!!) to help you. I would like you to gether as much information on the sytstem so we can sort out the bugs.

Additionally, I see you live nearby. I'm heading out to Oxley Bunnings sometime this week, so if you are interested in can drop in. Additionally if you need some timber cut I have an under-used Triton workcentre that I got for my Birthday this time last year (some people have great girlfriends).

Anyway, keep calm, it's maybe just something simple and nothing a little time, thought and money can fix (I'm at Uni so I know alot about the money issue).
