Hi lads and ladies

I was just wondering if anyone here uses tiles that have been cut in there tanks. I use to make caves and other things out of them using pvc pipes cut in half and also ceramic pots broken in half. My problem is i went to get a tile cutter to do this again and was warned that they tiles will leach toxins. Does anyone know whether this is true. I was told that most tiles are not designed to be submersed in water. But aren't they ceramic??

The floor tiles I used making my house are ceramic glazing over fired clay.

i would dout very much if tiles would leach as they are designed for wet area.

Mate,
I have been using tiles in my tanks for years without any problems.  If the tiles are fired (ie cooked in an oven) then you will not have any problems.  if it was made out of clay and just dried, then you will have a problem.

I user 200x200 tiles to make square boxes using silicon.  The boxes are big enough for my fronties to hide in and easy & light enought for me to take them out when needed.  You can also stack them up and make a tower/pyramid so that it's like a rock wall  without all the weight of natural rocks.

Cheers,
dan

The only tiles you carn't use in your tank are the dark blue ones
I found this out when I was doing ceramics the blue glaze is not food save
But still its might be ok for fish I think it contains lead or somthing

Thanks a lot for all the replys. I used to use a lot of tiles a while back cutting PVC pipes in half and cracking pots in half and siliconing them together. I just couldn't remember if any of the tiles were cut.

Thanks again for all the replies (how the hell do you spell replies replys hahah)
