I am going to have to get a new air pump soon ( I have a really old 2 diaphram one that leaks a lot.) & I was wondering what people think about turbine air pumps as I have never had one. Are they quieter than diaphram pumps?
The sound issue is very important to me... at the moment when I watch my fish I turn the air pump off because it is just too annoyingly loud.  I would like to get a quiet (as possible) & reliable air pump!

Another unrelated question I will throw in here... does anyone know where (in the brisbane area) I can buy clear pvc piping of about 40-50mm diamater? & clear pvc joiners as well if that's possible.

Cheers.

Mate I have just bought a turbine pump as noise goes it is not too bad at least you don't have to replace the diaphrams every 12-18 months. My old diaphram pump had just blew it's diaphrams and $130 for the replacements I got my mate in the shop I supply to get me a turbine pump on his recomendation stting it up this weekend so will let you know more then.
don't just want to breed good fish I want to breed WOW fish.

FISHKEEPING IS MORE THAN A HOBBY IT IS A DISEASE MAN!!

i used to have a 300l/hr turbine pump, quite noisy, however it all depends on what size you're after.
