this is one of the locals from the neighbouring village we met, he invited us back to his place for a cava session, we said yeah ok cool lets go
cava for those who dont know, is a traditional native fijian drink that is extracted and prepared from a plant root by beating it to a fine a dust, then soaking it in a bag in water and sqeezing all the goodness out of it into the water, of which you drink. Its kinda weird, it makes your lips and tounge go numb and puts you into a dosile kinda daydreamy state of mind...its a relaxant basically, any yes it looks just like dirty laundry water but tastes quite nice.
Its used in every ceremony, celebration, death birth heck any occasion. They drink it every day of the week except for saturday or what ever day they choose and have a 'wash down' day...where they drink alcohol to cleanse there sytem, coz they were telling us if you drink to much you start to look old very quickly   :? The native women drink it in the last 6 months of there pregnancy beacause it makes the child very passive once born, less crying tantrums etc...so they said
Anyways we got wasted and also brought a few bags home with us

Nice work Ash, Congratulations on the wedding too, Is that why you havent been round here much lately.
So you reccomend FIji as a holidat destination? what was the name of the resort you stayed at?

ashhhh

Thanks lol yeah we were a bit sus on the locals too but the fijians are the friendliest bunch of people you could meet.
Fiji is an awesome place many different places to stay at.
We stayed on the main island of fiji in 'The Naviti Resort', they had an all inclusive package deal going at the time we booked, so we got all our meals breakfast lunch and dinner, and all the resort activities free, soft drinks, local beer wines and spirits were unlimited, when ever the bars were open you could drink
.....we got our moneys worth thats for sure.

When we go back we will try one of the outer islands resorts next time, theres many little islands to choose from and the snorkling/diving is just absolutely beautiful, well worth the trip over there.
Would go back tommorrow if I could
Cheers.....

Sigmaphile

Ash,
Be careful telling people you brought back Cava. Not legal here in OZ.

Too busy working and breeding fish!!!!!!!

cvanwyk

HEy Ashhhh, i like your underwater pics, what model camera did u use?

Sigmaphile, that may be incorrect, it would seem that people over the age of 18 can bring in two kilos of Kava each http://www.druginfo.adf.org.au/article.asp?ContentID=kava

chris

ashhhh

yeah as cvanwyk said, you can bring up to 2kgs back per person, its a plant material so you just have to declare it in customs when returning to Australia ...

The camera I used was the Olympus MJU720SW
heres a review on it   http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/OS720SW/OS720SWA.HTM
Cheers.....
