Anyone know anything about rams?<

eed. They keep picking at all the rocks in the aquarium, and the female has this weird protrusion from near her anal fin. Is this something used to lay eggs?<

Mistakes Are Crucial

Big water change with cooler, soft, acidic water.  There''s a stack of information on the net regarding simulating the season changes in the Amazon.  Try this one Season Changes<

Hi BOBO,<
> when i had them, i was told if the water was to hard or had to much calcium in it, the eggs will not have enough time for the male to fertalise them before the water hardend them, so they go white strait away and are no good. so keep your water soft, i was also told 50/50 tap & rain water (info was from the LFS). when the f/m has her genitals exposed and is fat in the guts, you know it will happen soon. i had mine laying on a rock and have had them use the glass on the bottom of the tank. then the trick is feeding the little buggers as they are so small, so ask ya LFS and see what they recomend, micro worms or something like that. <
>well good luck, hope this helps.<

Mine
ed on the top of my internal power filter. No stimulating needed. The female got a very pink stomach and the protrusion near her anal fin and by the end of the day I had eggs. Before they spawned they had been sitting together on top of the filter for a few hours, picking at it and removing any bits of sand etc.

How many eggs do they lay on an average and is it easy to keep the fry alive? as in do the parents turn cannibal after a certain amount of time or so? or is it best to take the parents out of the new born tank?<

Hmm.. my rams decided to have a divorce. I dont know why. male just started chasing her and trying to bite her. It looked like they were ready to
eed. I keep putting him in a solitary confinement ice cream container for days, but he doesnt learn his lesson. <

Yeah woopi, mine at 4cm had around 150 or so eggs, at the end me snails ate a heap of the eggs and 100 hatched, they ended up starving cause i removed them from the parents. i was told after this, that you remove the female after they hatch and the male looks after them for a couple of weeks. i cant really help with anything else, after my ordeal(loosing then threw starvation) i got rid of mine...<
>Hope this helps guys.<
