just wondering how do i go about sexing fronnies.
i picked up 4 this weekend (sat) which were in a tank with 3 red jewels (i think thats what they are called but no idea really)

where they were i couldnt really see them much but were told one was holding (wasnt when i picked them up) and another one has held in the past but have never had any fry from either. this didnt bother me as i just wanted them anyway.

i now have them home (all 7 fish) and i have 2 that constantly hide in caves and 2 that are constantly forced into a spot and are not allowed to move. Just wondering what sexes i am most likely to have if this is their behaviour.

any ideas appriecated  \
thanks

you best bet is to get some photos up, and sizes of the fish, and what type of frontosa they are, If they are 6 bar, your males will generally have a larger hump on there head, and be bigger than the females, that is if they are fully grown.

emiee

thanks heaps for your help glen
i have looked back at your posting pic tutorial and giving it an attempt.
but from what you say i think i may have 3 males and 1 female
here goes
the smallest possible female (approx 13cms)

the other 2 (approx 15cms total) that are chased by the last one so am assuming they are male

how do nake the pics smaller/normal

It sounds like you have a dominant male (the last pic) that is showing who's boss, so you could have 2 other males if he's only picking on them, however they could be female.... Also males generally have larger humps on their head.  I've got 7 fronnies and from watching their (personality & behaviour) you get a pretty good guess. My males fight alot and brood in their caves. Anyway thats just from my experience, check out this site for some good info http://frontosa.com or ask sealord in the breeder register or deagon theo they breed them & can probably give you some more insight

Yea its abit hard to tell, i would say the top two are females, next one a subdominant male, and the last the dominant male.

But cichlidwoman is probably right, you can get a good idea just from looking at them. Can I ask what you paid for them?

emiee

i brought them in a package but can pm or email you what i got etc if you like

i would have to agree with cichlidwoman and someone on the pics to but its not 100% definite, as i found out when i kept fronnies a year ago
