About the Queensland Cichlid Group

A love of fish has brought us together since 1970.

The Queensland Cichlid Group Inc. is a Queensland based, not-for-profit club for people who enjoy keeping, breeding and learning about cichlids and other freshwater fish. From someone setting up their first tank to a fishkeeper with decades of experience, everyone is welcome.

Our club began in 1970, and decades of members have shared their knowledge, fish and friendships ever since. We believe some of the best things about fishkeeping happen when people get together: asking questions, swapping ideas, celebrating a successful breeding project or discovering a species you’ve never seen before.

Throughout the year, we bring the community together through general meetings, guest talks, fish auctions, market events and our involvement at the Ekka. Our meetings are a chance to learn something new and meet fellow fishkeepers in a friendly setting.

We’re also bringing our long-running forum into the next chapter of the club. It holds knowledge and conversations from the days before social media, and we’d love members old and new to help make it a lively place to share again.

Come and meet us. General meetings are held on the first Friday of the month, except January and August, at Bar-Jai Community Hall, 178 Alexandra Road, Clayfield. Whether you’re looking for advice, new fish or simply good company, there’s a place for you at the Queensland Cichlid Group.
