As peacocks hybridize so easily it's very hard to get pure stock up here or in Australia in general, unless you get onto the right people. Lots out there that are generalistic about what strain they have to offer, eg Sunshine Peacock could mean Maleri, Baenschi, whatever, and they'll say "Dunno, but it has a blue face and yellow body".
If you're really keen, try to get some quality from good breeders - F1s etc. Check Fishtraderlau and Buzbox on the breeders register - they don't have heaps of breeds to choose from but good stuff I've seen first hand.

And if you're really, REALLY keen, check some good breeders down south that you could get different blood lines freighted to QLD. One bloke on ACE Forums called Phatoscarlover seems to have good stuff he got from a guy called "Mr Peacock" aka aussiem on that same forum. Mr Peacock lives in Vic or southern NSW I think but was given his name by Stuart Grant of Ad Konings (can't remember who), when they sought him out specifically to check his excellent stock of peacocks. I'm fairly sure both these guys will freight stuff to you if you're interested. Another guy on ACE called "Nigel" was importing peacocks from Africa recently but not sure what he has on hand now.

Then breed them true and help keep up the peacock quality in Australia.

Thanks for that GTR that is my plan to track down the best possible cichlids I can find the ones I have are all F1 german and a pair of F1 wild caights. I have contacted a shop in adelaide that imports.
Unfortunately I know phatoscarlover and we don't get on too well and I cannot get on ace as I have a free email address.
But I will keep looking to get exactly what I want.
Cheers Brad

Excellent mate, another peacock enthusiast and so many gorgeous varieties to hunt down.
I have an African display tank with 4 varieties of male peacock in it - one each of Maleri, Kornelaie, Kandeense & Lwanda, and despite what people say about peacocks all have coloured up nicely in the one display.
There was a bit of interest in Brisbane for the Aulonocara genus about 2-3 years ago but as the hobby has grown, people have moved onto other things I guess. Poor quality getting around and the fact they take a while to colour kinda killed some of the interest.

Hope it goes well and you'll have to let us know what you put together.

I have wild caught Hueseri and find it extremely difficult to get rid of fry. Its getting to the stage that I am thinking of adding some cuckoo cats to their tank and use the peacocks as hosts.
I will second what GTR73 has said. Get quality fish and you will be very happy. At our cichlid auction in Sydney last weekend 'Mr Peacock' bought many varities along only to find that he couldnt get decent money for them. You should have been there. Could have gotten some excellent fish very cheap.
Nigel doesnt have any peacocks now and I doubt he will bring them agian as he had so much trouble getting rid of them the first time.

It is a shame that you don't live a bit closer stewart would take some of those heuseri fry off you. I do have a market in place for them and am working in closely with the wholesaler I am supplying to get the best possible fish he seems to have a market somewhere for them but don't get into that side of it with him, just do what he asks. That way hopefully should always be able to get rid of them. Aquarama in stafford has set up a display tank it has at least 15 different varieties of peacock males in it and it looks great and he was saying the interest is unbelievable.
